This Is Why

Do you know how everyone always says to read through a pattern before you begin? I"m sorry to say that I never do. I am sorrier to say that it finally caught up with me.

This is my Galliano vest-with THREE BALLS OF YARN ATTACHED. Yes, you read that right. THREE BALLS OF YARN. You divide the fronts and the back and work them on either side of the bound off arm opening AT THE SAME TIME. Those are the four most hated words in all of knittingdom. AT THE SAME TIME. I HATE doing things AT THE SAME TIME. Two things is bad. Three things is a horror.

I know I could have adjusted the pattern and worked each side separately but that felt like cheating and I'm sure I would be punished for it in the end. I know, that's crazy talk but right now this whole thing is crazy. The tangle factor alone is enough to drive you mad. I've got to keep all those balls in control or I can't even get the project out of the bag without a major disaster- and I've got no one to blame but me.

  1. oh dear... in the bag these things tangle each other up and they do it on purpose. it's not right.

  2. At the same time is one of my hated phrases and I do read the whole pattern first, several times. It isn't necessary to punish yourself. Cut the yarn and work each section! You are the boss! It will be worth wearing the vest as a sane woman!

  3. Yarn wrangling can wear a knitter out. Hang in there.

  4. I'm not a pattern reader either... and there have been several times where I've gotten to a part and gone "OH, $%&* THAT!!!" and done something completely different.

  5. I shudder at those words . I find a well written pattern makes me just follow it and it works out. IF the pattern isn't written out well....forget about it!

  6. Read through the pattern? Half the time I just skip right to the cast on and miss very important notes! I feel ya.

  7. I'm part of the "do not read through the pattern" club. It kinda goes hand in hand with the "gauge? what gauge?" club. Word on the street is membership is at a all time high.

However if I'm reading this right, 3 balls are only making you insane with the idea that it might all get knotty real soon.... but it hasn't yet! So you are on your way to victory. I believe in you, but also believe you have enough crafty powers for good to make this however you want if you want.

ps: my desire to make some kind of Patriots ball joke is very high, alas my inner grampa is failing me today and I think that Internet ship has already passed. ;)

  8. I'm not a thorough reader either and have paid the price as well. Hang in there, and remember, YOU are in charge! BTW, looks like great yarn and a very nice color.
