A New Direction

My new hook arrived last week but I had too much else going on to find the time to play with it.

If you compare my old one to this new one you can see why I wanted it so badly. The new hook has a tapered shaft that makes bigger holes so that the wool comes through without all the pulling and tugging.

The new one also has a place to rest your thumb and it was here that I discovered I was holding the hook all wrong.

Not only was I hooking in the wrong direction (outside to inside) but I was also holding the whole thing wrong and pulling the loops in the wrong direction.

My poor blue flower petal became pretty wonky as I tried to get used to the new direction but after a bit it all seemed to make better sense. Now I need to order more wool because I am out of the pretty colors. It's always something.

  1. The new one does look to be better and I don't know that much about hooking (Yikes that didn't sound good). What I do know is that it's always best to get the best equipment available if you want your projects to turn out well. I love how this rug is looking so far too. I could use new rugs....I should look into trying this. Looks like fun!

    1. I am using an old fashioned embroidery hoop but not liking it. I hope to get something better when I figure out what I need.
