Second Try

My second try at this rug hooking thing went a little smoother than the first time around. I am starting to figure out how to make the hook do what I want to do but I was still starting on the outside and working inwards which is a big no-no if you want the center to work out right.

It becomes harder and harder to pull the wool through as the material grows tighter and tighter.

What I have also learned is that I need a new type of hook and the good ones aren't cheap. I am looking at about $40 for one that will make this whole thing even easier by making a bigger hole so I don't have to do so much pulling and tugging to get the fuzzy wool through the narrow holes in the stiff burlap.

You really think I would have given this all up as folly by now but playing with all those brilliant colors of fuzzy wool fabric is just too much fun.

I also keep reminding myself that $40 for a hook is nothing compared to the thousands of dollars in tools I have to make my own yarn. NONE of this stuff is cheap.

  1. Ain't that the truth!! But the end result is so worth the cost not to mention all the fun one has using all these tools. Spoken like a true creative fanatic!!! LOL! I love your color combinations BTW.

  3. I do not need another hobby. I do not need another hobby. I do not need another hobby. Do you think if I say it enough times it will keep me from running out and getting a kit?

  5. oh I have spent countless hours now on Ebay an google looking up rug hooking tools, wool, patterns, and youtube watching videos....this is just to much fun to pass up. I know some box around here has my mother's hook in it. I can't get over how expensive this stuff all is. I thought I'd try a kit for starters.....well think again. I do have my eye on one though...
