As Promised

The weather people got it right. It was a beautiful day.

By beautiful I mean cool and gray. That's my kind of weather.

Now that the tourists are all gone the wildlife is back in charge. This big gull was guarding its fish. There was so much drama going on that I had to leave. Birds can be pretty mean critters and it looked like the whole thing was turning ugly.

That gull is one of the big guys that showed up a few weeks ago. You can see how much bigger they are when they are surrounded by our regular gulls. They are monsters.

Then there was a flock of these handsome fellows. They were stirring up lots of trouble. I think they are herring gulls and they may be pretty but they make an awful racket.

It was so nice we went back at dinnertime to the Farmer's Market.

I finally got the brick oven pizza I have wanted all summer. It was worth the wait.

Crabby

Yesterday I was up at 4 am so The Mister could go catch a cooler full of crabs with his brother. I spent the rest of the day out of sorts. It was hot as heck again so the best thing I can say about yesterday is that it's over.  They are promising that today will be cooler. They better be right.

To make up for no real content today, how about the photo Daughter sent me of Emi getting a new llama toy?  Isn't that just the cutest little llama? I want one too.

Unfinished Business

That's it. That's the end of the towel I've been working on all summer. I just wove the hem.

I had this much left on the back of the loom but it's telling me it doesn't want to go any further and I always listen to the loom.

I'm not going to cut it off and hem it yet because I still haven't finished warping the next project and I hate for the loom to be sitting empty. It just doesn't look right.

I have two more color repeats to do and then it'll be a go. Hopefully I'll have it done by the weekend since it's been too hot to even think about going out and doing much else.

Big Needle Wednesday

The Northern Lights hat is done. I actually finished it before I left for my kitty sitting trip but I forgot about it. I managed to get all those live stitches onto a cable before I blocked it without too much drama. Now I have to figure out what to do with them. My plan was to knit a liner since the yarn is Shetland and rather scratchy. I doubt it I could fit a liner and my big head in the hat so I've got  some thinking to do.

The big man socks are done. You all were right. There was plenty enough for toes with even some leftover. Hallelujah.

The only thing I've worked on since I've been home is a dishcloth. I'm pretty knit out at the moment.

I do have plans for this though. I found a simple but interesting hat pattern and I think I'm going to double strand it with some nice soft Chroma in the New England colorway. I think it will help the texture and brighten up the color. We'll see. It's going to be a big adventure when I work up the mojo to get started. It's hot and humid here again so working with wool isn't as fun as it was when we had the promise of fall upon us. Sigh.

Tiny Needle Tuesday: FO

September is done thanks to my kitty sitting vacation! That means I have the rest of the month to play with some other neglected projects.

The bottom section of my sheep breed sampler is also done.

Now I just have to do the top section.  It looks like a big deal. Yikes.

I did work a little more on the crewel project while I was gone even though I said I wasn't. It's really addicting.

And as for Dear Jane, the latest block is a real horror. It looked so simple but it's not. I hate curved piecing. Ugh.

Sew Sew Sunday

It's football season!!!! I've never watched a game in my life but I am soooo excited about it. It means The Mister is down in the man cave all day on Sundays so I get to do whatever I want and I want to sew. I've got projects that have been calling my name for months.

That table runner that is in the left bottom corner of the photo has been on my table for years and it needs to go. I need a fall replacement. I had a leftover jellyroll in fall materials so the first thing I did was do some chopping. I had found a very simple pattern and was all ready to get started when......

....of course I got sidetracked. When I went to dig out some more material I found this. Hmmmm....I could use a new fall apron and I'd forgotten about the Day of the Dead material I had found on clearance at Walmart ages ago.

Ta dah....all I can say is that this adventure ate up my day and reminded me how much I hate making aprons. I love wearing them. Hate making them. I had planned on making two but stopped at one.

For those of you who couldn't get enough of my new little grandkitty here are some photos Daughter sent me.

Awwwww.....I sure miss her.

Home!

Daughter and SIL drove straight through from Maine on Friday night so I got to come home Saturday morning. The news about the weather was not good thanks to Dorian so they decided a weekend home to recuperate would be better than sitting in the woods in the mud for two days. They arrived home at 1 am so I got up early the next morning and headed home. I stopped at the grocery store and picked up lots of veggies. After living on ramen for a week I needed colorful food. The first thing I did when I got home was make a big pot of vegetable soup.

The second thing I did was to make a pot of real coffee. I had been living off instant. Quelle horreur, right?

I wish I had opened my pile of mail first because look what was waiting for me. Thank you Sandflies! You've been enabling my pumpkin spice fix for several years now and it's always greatly appreciated.

Jeannie sent me this as a soap thank you. Which reminds me I have 80 some bars of fall soap to wrap. I'll be looking for good homes in the near future so watch this space. Thanks Jeannie for the book. It really is a treasure. I love knitting books with a story line and this is one fascinating read.

I also had this to open. One of you bloggy friends has been knitting socks with this and I had to have some. It took forever to get here and now I know why. It came all the way from Germany. It's getting tucked away until next summer though. I'm all about fall now.

Speaking of fall, look at what Daughter brought me back from Maine.

 It's handspun.

Umm.......look at the price. Yowza...and she bought TWO skeins. She wants me to make her a hat with a pompom for a trip to Iceland she's planning. I'm going to have to do a lot of homework to come up with a hat that will look good in this yarn. It's pretty wonky, expensive but still wonky.

Then there were these. The one on the right sums me up pretty good don't you think? It's good to be home. This crafty b*tch needs a break.
