It's unscented and that nasty burnt milk smell that came from the chemical reaction with the lye was gone. I was also very happy to see I didn't get a gel ring in the center that you can get with milk soaps if they get too hot. I even dared to add a dollop of honey so I was really taking a risk with the sugars heating up on me. I did keep the lye solution in an ice bath and soaped when it as at 56 degrees. I had my doubts but it seemed to have worked. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdGsr9d39dVmLwrG-27E6LP-Lc2R4cr6Vc_JCisDXWewYEH8W8PUHCzQ07ZXrF_4n053lBahtj7G6IZ7Sh7lJ8qDuMrLaLEBF24y1MVdkYSHTdSSpgmA2CglO4y7YWy_e3yMI_WB5jhU-PqJFBcFN0vpcEW0f1wlZN4tL84dsJrkh6hhUrIuK0Ke-SyH3Q/s665/PXL_20240317_163230456.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="665" data-original-width="499" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdGsr9d39dVmLwrG-27E6LP-Lc2R4cr6Vc_JCisDXWewYEH8W8PUHCzQ07ZXrF_4n053lBahtj7G6IZ7Sh7lJ8qDuMrLaLEBF24y1MVdkYSHTdSSpgmA2CglO4y7YWy_e3yMI_WB5jhU-PqJFBcFN0vpcEW0f1wlZN4tL84dsJrkh6hhUrIuK0Ke-SyH3Q/w300-h400/PXL_20240317_163230456.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-size: medium;">And......the Sludge soap seemed to have also turned out better than expected. While tinking back one blessed stitch at a time while untangling all those wraps MY NEEDLE BROKE and all my stitches went flying out into the universe like rats jumping off a ship. After staring at the mess in shock for what felt like hours, I managed to get them all rounded up onto another circular AND then discovered that I DON'T have that size needle tip in my needle stash AND Knit Picks doesn't make the nickle tips in that size anymore. I'm done with the wood ones since this seems to be happening with my old kit more and more. I had to buy a whole starter pack of needles just to get a size 7 tip in nickle so I can finish this dang thing. Now I have to WAIT until it gets here before I can do anymore work on it which isn't really a problem since I still have days of nasty tinking back to do. </span><div><span style="font-size: medium;">It's always something. <br /></span><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p></div>Araigneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10543030200956480168noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3193069937305434031.post-81543963539400955932024-03-14T00:00:00.076-04:002024-03-14T00:00:00.342-04:00Can You Dig It?<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghQE2lsE1zo2J9X_Yx7oJ-Yg1M7Se4kLNcLUr970l3EbfQbtVFKIC6wD8QxWjdJUrsQZ8VXbqJ4RoxX2xq2PJdwS44vCvHHPBogPaWteAUQciESHYWj16iHB1xZBHv4OVsSAkQOWPZpvFca0GlSbC8Y7BlE3w1oIgNwxbLXjgmKGET5wv6DmmeasYUtX_b/s665/PXL_20240313_150815128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="665" data-original-width="499" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghQE2lsE1zo2J9X_Yx7oJ-Yg1M7Se4kLNcLUr970l3EbfQbtVFKIC6wD8QxWjdJUrsQZ8VXbqJ4RoxX2xq2PJdwS44vCvHHPBogPaWteAUQciESHYWj16iHB1xZBHv4OVsSAkQOWPZpvFca0GlSbC8Y7BlE3w1oIgNwxbLXjgmKGET5wv6DmmeasYUtX_b/w300-h400/PXL_20240313_150815128.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-size: medium;">Guess what we did again yesterday? As soon as we could move our old bodies we took off to a big name hardware store that had a bigger garden department than our mini Walmart has. It didn't disappoint. $150 later I had a few more fancy shrubs, some perennials, some pansies and three more little pots of narcissus to put in the ground. We spent the day once again digging holes and hauling bags of dirt and mulch. Whew....it didn't help that it was sunny and in the high 70's. Having several rainy days in a row this week helped. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8GBhoc1wwX8lLJbD2JWhfenTj6fIlx8q78kKteS_DYme6i9EfMSaoIsr3ln5QqyHxhEcXG6JsoDC1gNd2StIOmYVE0MZq2ecZNEBs8ufPKaZ4sY8AQ4f_MX9wiqff4PDjQhEG_RXCVuNHxWT2fjoqT5K_BgAEiUV4KUmCUHyl0vhxeZkMeDeV_B_rRVGZ/s665/PXL_20240305_161332811.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="665" data-original-width="499" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8GBhoc1wwX8lLJbD2JWhfenTj6fIlx8q78kKteS_DYme6i9EfMSaoIsr3ln5QqyHxhEcXG6JsoDC1gNd2StIOmYVE0MZq2ecZNEBs8ufPKaZ4sY8AQ4f_MX9wiqff4PDjQhEG_RXCVuNHxWT2fjoqT5K_BgAEiUV4KUmCUHyl0vhxeZkMeDeV_B_rRVGZ/w300-h400/PXL_20240305_161332811.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-size: medium;">That page had been laying blank, staring at me for months. Scary sick. Not the "I throw up once and then beg for food" sick but the laid out, no eating sick for about 48 hours. Just when I thought she was getting better, she got sick again that late afternoon so off The Mister and I went to the doggy ER to get her looked at. After a 45 minute drive there, it was a 5 hour wait just to see the vet so I spent a lot of time watching people coming and going. The love we have for our pets is remarkable. So much worry, so much joy, so many emotions we saw from everyone who came and went through the night. Every one had a story. I had to get out the tissues several times. </span><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh00MqLuw1hg7ZcL2UF4mDk0e6vX4IuWcfcavv9o3bkPaSAgaVyvMChJjdd5gD_mXnwGO4tKHvA1VQmieyW0sly-pJKjG7HyortrRxjgiW-aI6Qw3lGASOGvwmlNuyenCsCeV2vJ35WRJLWrUVA70Ozbg9_APOWNnRkPYs6ytd-chLfny6maEfJH1Lcic3n/s665/PXL_20240229_153939751.MP.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="665" data-original-width="499" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh00MqLuw1hg7ZcL2UF4mDk0e6vX4IuWcfcavv9o3bkPaSAgaVyvMChJjdd5gD_mXnwGO4tKHvA1VQmieyW0sly-pJKjG7HyortrRxjgiW-aI6Qw3lGASOGvwmlNuyenCsCeV2vJ35WRJLWrUVA70Ozbg9_APOWNnRkPYs6ytd-chLfny6maEfJH1Lcic3n/w300-h400/PXL_20240229_153939751.MP.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-size: medium;">The long story short is that they couldn't find anything scary wrong with Pup. All the labs and x-rays came out normal for an old dog with an upset tummy. We have to keep her quiet and feed her bland food until she snaps out of it. She got fluids injected, a shot for nausea and a pro-biotic. </span><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_J-Fsh9g9e21bm8wOfODIXmf1FyWsaO-CQUUbOZIbSfWYYwXvewqa4xp40YwP_VyetuqvADoxVtNKPyOIAnv2JG9Aqt-flF9t9aAzB377QPdnUASQcaml8vkhFMKTl3RG0C5hSHXQAnDeMGYp5fy3k06SfxWCCIQFjru4_-9TT8_erbhxfqW0MCRBebeT/s665/PXL_20240229_153948597%20(1).jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="665" data-original-width="499" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_J-Fsh9g9e21bm8wOfODIXmf1FyWsaO-CQUUbOZIbSfWYYwXvewqa4xp40YwP_VyetuqvADoxVtNKPyOIAnv2JG9Aqt-flF9t9aAzB377QPdnUASQcaml8vkhFMKTl3RG0C5hSHXQAnDeMGYp5fy3k06SfxWCCIQFjru4_-9TT8_erbhxfqW0MCRBebeT/w300-h400/PXL_20240229_153948597%20(1).jpg" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span>It was a very long and very expensive night but worth every penny. She's still on a restricted bland diet but it's finally staying where it's supposed to-most of the time. Her appetite and energy level are not quite back to normal. She's only supposed to get short walks from now on. Not surprisingly, her x-rays showed lots of ugly things happening in her knees. Add that to her missing hip joint and we could be in a world of hurt again if we don't restrict her motion. It's short walks from now on with more riding in her doggy buggy. You have to plop it. The clay makes it thicken quickly so there's no time for anything fancy. It doesn't stay in it's own lane like mica colors do so there's no sense in planning anything pretty. You just plop it in and bang, bang, bang on the mold to get it all down into it in a somewhat level way. All that black is activated charcoal. Flames and everything. I usually heat up my hard oils and butters slowly in a jar in a water filled crockpot but I forgot to plug the darn thing in. I was in a hurry because the lye solution was ready to go and I neglected to notice a tiny bit of foil on the edges of my coconut and palm oil containers. The sparks caught both oils on FIRE. What a mess-and the smell and the smoke. Terrible. Luckily, I had two more containers of the oils in the soap stash. They did NOT go in the microwave in their original containers. I don't have any soap to show off today because when I went into my clay stash I realized I didn't have any. Since this will be the last soap making adventure until fall I really wanted to make a batch of unscented clay soap. It's a favorite of mine for those hot, humid summer months when I am usually covered in bug bites or poison ivy. I am very happy to say that my shipment of fresh new clay additives-including a big container of my very favorite French Green Clay are finally here.
