VinterSaga

Vintersaga is the name of Ikea's holiday collection. I ran smack into it yesterday when I ran in to get a new dish scrubber. We were on an errand for The Mister and we were in the vicinity. I have to say that it was pretty ho hum. It's early though. Maybe there will be more to come.

Since I am not feeling the good feels when it comes to the winter holidays this year I thought I might get some different things to change it up. Instead of the ginger cookies I always gifted Daddio, I got oatmeal for myself. I skipped the bottle of glogg and got a chocolate bar with gingerbread crunchies. Instead of some new baubles for the tree I bought a giant star pendant for the front window which is all that I am committing to this year.

  1. Oh IKEA! We were going to try to make the 6 hour drive to Portland, OR next weekend to see some blog friends and go to IKEA but Dennis has unexpected clients flying in and now can't take Friday off. No IKEA for me. It's been almost 3 years and I miss it. :-( . It looks like you made some very good choices for your holidays.
I don't know how much we'll do for Christmas this year either. It will just be the two of us and it's hard to muster the energy to decorate. But then, I always say that and end up putting everything out so we'll see.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. LOL, I'm laughing at the idea of going to Ikea for only a dish scrubbie. :)
I'm glad you mentioned Christmas today. With our pending move and the holidays right around the corner, I've been freaking over the idea of storing our Christmas stuff and having a Christmas without it. Even though since my mom died on Christmas 12 years ago,I haven't begun to decorate as much (or do anywhere near the celebrating we used to do) I'll struggle without a few of our traditional holiday ornaments. But... reading your post, I realized that perhaps a year (or 3) without our stuff is just what I need to clear the gloomy attitude I've had. It will be all fresh and fun once I see it all again. Thanks for helping me realize that.

  4. My grandmother also died on Christmas day and my mother died a few weeks before Christmas. Daddio passing away last year right after New Year's was the nail in Christmas's coffin for me. Too many ghosts. Too many bad memories. Time for something new. I'm thinking Chinese food and a movie.

  6. The star in the window sounds like a great winter holiday decoration to me. Thru the years, as people have passed away, some of our traditions have changed. I was shocked to see that one of the neat shops in my town is advertising their Christmas reveal next weekend.

  7. As the years go by, traditions change for many reasons. The challenge is to find some new ones, and it sounds like you are on the way! Hugs!
