82

Mom would have been 82 today.

Since Daddio's departure I've thought about her more than I have in a while.

In 1953 she was a young bride...

 ...and a young mother.

That's the beginning of a family that will soon include two more daughters.

This is one of my favorite photos of her. She was always happiest at the beach.

My kids called her Granny and she took them down to the Bay every chance she could.

Before she got sick we took her all the way to Maine one summer. We traveled through New England and into Canada so she could see lighthouses. This is as old as she ever got. She was my age when a frighteningly brief battle with leukemia took her from us.

This photo I took of her when I was in college is how I like to remember her best. I was young, she was young and in this perfect little moment we both had our whole lives ahead of us.

  1. What sweet, sweet photos. Wasn't she just the most adorable baby???? Those curls and those blue eyes.

I hope those memories bring you some comfort today.

  2. Your mother was a beautiful lady and she has raised a beautiful daughter. Thank you for sharing these wonderful memories with us. I know from personal experience how awful it is to lose your mom. I was only 29 years old when my mom passed. I don’t think I will ever get over it. Blessings, Betsy

  10. What a stunningly beautiful woman! She looks so young when she was married and then with her first baby. But she clearly grew gracefully into those roles. May her memory be a blessing.

  11. SHe looks like she was full of fun. I love this remembrance of her. I am still finding it hard to remember my Mom when she was not ill. She passed away four years ago, yet all I picture her is in the nursing home, unable to move or talk.
