A Day at the Races

The Dragon Boat races were very meh this year. No costumes. I had a good view from a nice shady spot. Thankfully the weather was better than Friday's 100 degrees that that they say felt like 107. I believe it.

Everyone just wore their team tee shirt and black shorts. No fun there. The vendors were a little sparse too.

There was some drama. One of the boats went over. I've never seen that before. They also had to pull the drummers off the boats because it was getting so rough. Pup and I sat in the shade for a few hours watching until she'd had enough. I went home and left The Mister there and then went back and picked him up later. He was burned to a crisp.

I got that nice shady bench with a front row view because we were there really early. The Farmer's Market opens at 8 so we went there first and then went right to the park across from where all the action started at 9. Beets were new this week so I picked up a few to roast. I now regret passing up a beautiful $6 cauliflower. Back at home I fixed myself a gin and tonic and put some minestrone in the slow cooker for dinner using up some of the squash. I've got a lot of kale again this week and I hope it's as good as last week's. We ate all three bags of the stuff. It lasted all week long.
