To Market, To Market
It's that time of year. The Farmer's Market is back in business on Saturday morning. The Mister has been looking forward to it so I hobbled off with him for a quick stroll around. Pup went in her stroller which I hung onto for dear life.
It was pretty much the same vendors we usually see but there was something new. I think they sold fancy lemonades but I'm not sure. I do know they had a line around the block. I'll have to investigate further when I'm feeling better.
There was some decent early produce but I'm still not up to cooking so I passed on it. Mostly it was flowers and plants. Again I passed. I really want to put in some annuals out front but that's not happening. Just keeping what I have watered is enough right now.
We noticed things being set up near the water and went to explore. If you look between the two people and the blue tent you can see one of the osprey nests that dot the bay.
It seems they were holding a big festival today in their honor. It looks like it was going to be a lot of fun but it wasn't until later that afternoon and I was done walking for the day. It's nice that the ospreys came back in time for their party this year. They didn't show back up at all last year. It seems the bay osprey have had significant breeding challenges in past years which has drastically cut the population some say by almost 90%. The cause? Starvation due to climate change and pollution. Same as it ever was now with consequences that you can actually see.
There is a very large osprey nest just a half mile down the road from my parents' house--they love watching the nest for the young!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what the farmer's market would have this early, and it's about what I expected. I'm glad that the ospreys have a nest but a population decline of 90% is terrible.
ReplyDeleteI remember walking around the bay by Mandy's house when they lived in Edgewater. Lots of Osprey nests and we even saw a few babies. It was pretty exciting.
ReplyDeleteWe have a stroller for Zoey that we've only used a few times. We're planning on taking it with us on our camping trips this year because she has separation anxiety so bad. We can leave her at home for a couple of hours at a time one or two times a week but that's it. She's terrified if we leave her at the camper or anywhere else. Except Mandy's. She adores all of them. We've never had a dog like this and we definitely don't leave her more than a couple of times a week. She just can't handle it. Even then, she's glued to us at the hip when we get home. It's nice to be loved but...
We're hoping the stroller helps us to be able to take her places with us more.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Ii'm glad you got out! Farmers markets out here won't start for quite a while--although I'm thinking I may be able to harvest a radish or two in the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen an osprey nest. Thanks for the education!
ReplyDeletei love a good farmers market! Every once in a while, we catch sight of an osprey around here - magnificent birds!
ReplyDeleteThe Farmer's Market is always fun. Here they begin about the second weekend in May with plants, typical vendors, and maybe early salad greens. I'm glad you could go.
