Cast Away

I had a bad case of sock startitis over the weekend. I had bought this skein of Static a while back and was feeling a little guilty about having no man socks in the gift box yet this year so I thought I'd cast on a pair using this.

I was feeling pretty smug about them. In fact I went online and thought I'd buy a few more skeins in man sock colors because I really liked the feel and the look of it. That's when I discovered to my horror that this is not just some randomly dyed yarn. It's patterned and they are actually matchy matchy. That's just what I didn't want. I wanted a mindless cast on for a change.  Needless to say they are now unraveled and I'm going to have to make the time to figure out how to make this mish mash match because that's just how I roll. Sigh.

If that's not bad enough, I also cast on the latest Felici two at a timers only to discover that although they are the very same dye lot one pair is a lot more vivid than the other. It's hard to see it in the photo but trust be there is a noticeable difference.

My weekend sock adventures were a bust but I did make some darn good bread. I guess you can't win'em all.

  1. I'm sorry your socks all gave you problems. The bread looks amazing though! Yum! Anything is better with bread.
I'm supposed to get my 2nd shot tomorrow but we've been having a windstorm of 50-70 mph winds and lots of places have had their electricity knocked out. I got a text earlier that there is a good possibility thata I won't be able to have the shot tomorrow unless they can find an alternate site. Yikes. My trip to NE is all planned based on the 7-day wait for full effectiveness. My fingers and toes are all crossed for a positive text tomorrow morning.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. That bread looks delicious! The yarn is so pretty - worry you ripped out the start in the man socks...I wouldn't worry about matchy-matchy, but that's just me.

  3. Oh too bad about that newest pair (static yarn) that you had to unravel. It is lovely yarn! However, if you decide you don't want to make the effort to do match-matchy socks, I would be more than happy to take the yarn off your hands!! I am perfectly happy knitting socks that are fraternal twins not identical twins. :-)

  6. The socks are beautiful--I do see a diff but I bet they won't be so different as to look like they aren't a pair! But, that bread!!!! I would love a hunk with a ton of butter!

  8. Ugh oh. What's going on there is going on here. I finished a ridiculous looking sock tonight. I took out the toe and foot part. I think I have to let it rest a bit.
The yarn is just beautiful from Allison, my daughter, so I carefully kept every bit of it. I think this sock will become a fingerless glove. A lovely one at that. But this brain is in need of something else...for this week.
Sorry you had to start over too!
